Your reading place and spoilers

ManyNote keeps two positions for each book:

  • Your place is where you are reading, and where the book opens next time.
  • How far you have read is the furthest point you reached. The Book Guide's No Spoilers mode and the timeline never reveal anything past it.

Your place follows where you are: reading forward, paging or scrolling backward, and jumping through contents, the timeline, search, notes or links all save the new position. Close the book and it reopens exactly where you left it.

How far you have read stays at the furthest point you reached, even when you go backward. Resizing the window or changing text size does not record reading activity.

Going back after a jump

After you jump somewhere, or page or scroll quickly through the book, the header shows Back to the chapter you came from. Select it, or press b, to return; Forward (or Shift+B) goes to the jump again. The timeline marks each spot you jumped from with Jumped from here. Back stays available after you close the book, on this device only.

Jumps you make one after another without reading in between, such as trying several search results, count as one, so Back returns to where you were reading.

Peeking ahead

Jumping into a part you have not read yet is a peek. It does not move how far you have read, so the Guide and timeline still hide what comes after your place. Turn a page, scroll, listen or ask the Guide there and it counts as reading from that spot. Select Back instead and nothing changes. If you close the book while peeking, it reopens on the same page.

Reading on two devices

Your place syncs to every device where you are signed in. If another device moved your place while this one was reading, this device reads on its own and the timeline says This device is reading on its own. Choose Continue from account place or Make this the account place.

Starting over

How far you have read only moves forward. To read again from the beginning with spoilers hidden, select Aa in the book to open Settings and choose Start over under This book. See Settings.
