Talking with characters
When a book has characters you have met, the Book Guide shows them in a row under the panel's heading, with the Guide first. Select a face to talk with that character, or the book to return to the Guide:
- Characters in the current chapter come first and have a dot on their face.
- Characters you met in earlier chapters follow.
- Characters you have not met yet are not shown, to avoid spoilers; a lock shows how many there are.
- If they do not all fit, the row ends in More with the number left over, such as +7. It lists everyone under In this chapter and Met earlier, and how many you have not met yet. The character you are talking with always stays in the row.
A character answers in their own voice and knows only what they would know at that point in the story; the line under their name says so. Their starter questions ask them about themselves, such as What is on your mind right now?. Each character has their own conversations; switching opens your latest one with them.
Character cards
Character cards are in the navigation panel, under its Characters tab beside the timeline. It shows the same lists. Select a character for their card: other names, a description of who they are so far, and where they first appear. Chat with {name} opens the Book Guide talking as them, and Go to first appearance jumps to where they enter the story. Selecting a character in the timeline's Cast layer opens their card too. Some descriptions wait until you finish the current chapter.
Characters come from a book's prepared Book Guide. If a book has none, you can still talk with the Book Guide.
