Manynote is an early-access ebook reader. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Manynote website and app, why, and the choices you have. "We" means the people who run Manynote.
What we collect
- Account details. When you create an account, our sign-in provider gives us your name, email address and an account identifier.
- Your reading. Signed in, we store the books in My Books, your reading place, highlights, notes, appearance choices and Book Guide conversations so they sync across your devices. As a guest, these stay in your browser or on your device.
- Books you upload. EPUBs you upload are stored privately for your account. They are not shown to other readers.
- Help and messages. Questions you ask Manynote Help, and messages you send the team, with the page and problem details attached to them.
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to see how people browse, read and use the Book Guide, including book identifiers, approximate reading progress, reading time and masked session replays. Replays hide all text, typed input and images. Notes, book text, typed messages and Book Guide answers are not sent to analytics. Analytics uses a random identifier that is linked to your account while you are signed in.
- Technical logs. Our servers keep request logs and error reports needed to run, secure and fix the service. When something breaks in the website or app, it reports the error, the page (without its query string), your browser or device type and page performance, linked to a random session identifier, not your account.
How AI features use your information
The Book Guide, character conversations, recaps and Manynote Help are generated by AI models from third-party providers, currently OpenAI (directly and through OpenRouter). To answer, we send the provider your question, recent conversation and the passages of the book it needs. Preparing a Book Guide for a book you uploaded sends that book's text for processing. We send only what a feature needs, and we do not sell it.
How we use information
We use this information to provide and sync your reading, answer your questions, prepare books and Guides, fix problems, prevent abuse, and understand which parts of Manynote work. We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- People who run Manynote can access account records, uploaded books, Help conversations and messages to operate the service, fix imports and answer support requests.
- Service providers process data for us: WorkOS (sign-in), Resend (email), PostHog (analytics), OpenAI and OpenRouter (AI), Cloudflare (storage and network), OVHcloud (servers) and Grafana Labs (logs, monitoring and app error reports). Stripe processes payments; we never see your full card number.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information when the law requires it or to protect readers and the service.
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
How long we keep it
- Account data and your reading are kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account.
- Usage and billing records needed for accounting and usage limits are kept after an account is deleted, without your name or email.
- Help questions and answers: 90 days for accounts and 30 days for guests. Messages to the team are kept while open and for 730 days after they are resolved.
- When an account is deleted, its Help conversations and messages are deleted 30 days later.
Your choices
- Erase reading data… in a book's Settings permanently deletes that book's conversations, notes, marks and reading place.
- Signing out removes your account's data and private downloads from that device.
- Delete account, on Account and billing on the web or at the bottom of Settings in the app, deletes your account, the books you uploaded (unless another reader uploaded the same file), and your reading places, notes, highlights, Book Guide conversations and My Books, and removes your sign-in.
- To see or correct your data, or for anything Delete account does not cover, use Message the team on the Help page while signed in. We will respond to verified requests.
Manynote is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date below. For significant changes we will tell signed-in readers in Manynote.
